Milwaukee, Wis. (Aug. 11, 2015) – Local artist Curt Crain, commissioned by The Masterpiece Ltd., has captured the timeless beauty and unmistakable style of the Shelby GT350 Mustang in an oil on canvas portrait.

“Who doesn’t love a Mustang, and you add the Shelby component and it’s beauty and beast,” said Crain, who is in his second year as the commissioned artist for The Milwaukee Masterpiece. To depict the muscular GT350 Crain opted for a 3/4 view. “The 3/4 view for cars seem to work the best as you get to work with as much of the car as possible with one view,” he said.

The vehicle, with its iconic white paint and blue graphics, is depicted with the Milwaukee lakefront in the background. “The Masterpiece is featured on our great lakefront—why mess with that great combination,” Crain said.

In his first Milwaukee Masterpiece commission Crain captured the majestic lines of a 1914 Stutz. “The lines of the two cars are so different,” he said, comparing the GT350 to the Stutz. ”Both are beautiful but different. I used shorter brushstrokes on the Stutz and a bit longer, more fluid strokes for the Shelby.”

The painting measures 15 inches by 30 inches and features a “push and pull of complementary colors, and hard and soft edges,” Crain said.

“The actual car is really not that big, but its beauty extends beyond its physical length. Your eye just keeps going,” he said.

The portrait will be auctioned at the 2015 Milwaukee Masterpiece Style & Speed Social, Aug. 22, 2015, at the Blue Mound Golf and Country Club. Proceeds from the auction will support the Milwaukee Masterpiece’s designated charities: Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and Meta House.

The image also serves as the focal point of the Milwaukee Masterpiece’s 2015 commemorative poster.
